Established in 2020, the Scottish National Investment Bank (the Bank) is Scotland’s development investment bank, wholly owned by the Scottish Ministers on behalf of the people of Scotland. The Bank is a PLC and operationally independent from the government.
The Bank is an impact investor, focused on delivering both commercial returns and mission impacts with its investments.
The Bank invests in businesses and projects connected to Scotland, requiring £1 million to £50 million of patient debt or equity investment.
The Bank can act as a catalyst for attracting investment where the private market is failing to provide the support businesses and projects require to grow. This is particularly relevant for scale-up businesses, which are taking a proven concept and seeking to deliver it to a wider market by dramatically expanding their scale and productivity.
